Governors’ Policy – Holidays
Taking holidays in term time disrupts and damages the education of your child and that of the whole class.
The Government has now placed regulatory limitations on agreeing to term time holidays. A holiday can only be agreed in exceptional circumstances and is wholly at the discretion of the Headteacher. The maximum, even under exceptional circumstances, will be 10 days. The Government’s regulations stress that holiday prices and the fact that parents have booked the holiday without checking with the school are not special reasons.
The Governors reviewed the school policy in light of these changes, and agreed the following:
- No holiday for any year group will be authorised except in the circumstances set out above.
Please note if you wish to request leave of absence for the academic year you must contact the Headteacher in writing well in advance, setting out the exceptional circumstances and prior to making any booking. It is important that all parents support this policy and are aware that where children have unauthorised absences it may lead to a penalty notice or in extreme circumstances, court action. (A recent prosecution in the Crown Court relating to unauthorised holidays at The Fernwood School, resulted in fines of £735.)
