Admissions
Proof of residency
Please be advised that if you have uploaded your proof of residency on the link provided by the City Council, this information will be passed on to the Fernwood Admissions Team. You will be contacted by the Fernwood Admissions Team prior to the ranking of all applicants, should further information be required.
The Fernwood School has a history of being full, and a large number of applications have been refused. For schools which are full, priority is given to pupils who live within the catchment area (a copy of the full list of admission criteria is published in the Going to School in Nottingham booklet).
The Governing Body requires documentation from every applicant with regards to their home address. It is necessary to request this from everyone to avoid places being gained as a result of fraudulent or misleading information. In such circumstances, places will be withdrawn.
As confirmation of your home address, please provide an original and current Council Tax Bill, by 31 October 2024 to The Fernwood School at the address below.
Unfortunately, unless this documentation is received by the school the application will be treated as out of catchment.
If you are not clear about what information is required, please do not hesitate to contact the Admissions Team on 0115 9286326 or admissions@fernwood.school. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.
In-year applications
From April 17th 2023 the City Council will co-ordinate requests for all In Year places, and applications for The Fernwood School should now be made to the City Council using the Council’s common application form. The Fernwood School will remain its Own Admissions Authority and will offer any available places on the school's behalf. An in-year application is one made other than at the time of the normal admissions round and applies to places in all year groups, including any application received from 1 September for a current year 7 place. You can apply online at www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/schooladmissions or by requesting a paper form through the School Admissions Team, or by scanning the QR code to go to the application portal.
For the normal admissions round the City Council will continue to co-ordinate arrangements and requests for such places should still be made to the City Council at the appropriate time using the Council’s common application form. The normal admissions round is an application to transfer from Junior or Primary school to secondary school, made in October for admission in the following September.
Further information on the matters referred to above may be obtained from the Admissions Team (email admissions@fernwood.school or telephone 0115 9286326).
Appeals
When a parent or carer seeks a place in a state school and this is refused, there is a formal appeals procedure available to you. Please advise the admissions team at Fernwood School if you intend to lodge an appeal in accordance with your decision letter. Please click the link below for further information regarding the process and to commence an appeal.
